Support & troubleshooting
Let's get your mix onto the phone.
Most connection problems are local network settings. Start with the fast check, then use the answers below.
30-second connection check
Do these five things first.
- Confirm the computer and iPhone/iPad are on the same normal Wi-Fi network.
- Leave guest Wi-Fi and temporarily disable VPN or Private Relay-like network routing.
- Allow BONKO Local Network access on iOS when prompted.
- Allow your DAW through macOS Firewall or Windows Defender Firewall for local incoming connections.
- Reopen the plugin window and scan the current QR code again.
Connection
Connect and stream
The app cannot reach my computer
Make sure both devices use the same Wi-Fi name and that it is not a guest network. Turn off VPNs temporarily. Allow your DAW to receive local private-network connections in macOS Firewall or Windows Defender Firewall. Then reopen BONKO Streamer and scan a fresh QR code.
iOS did not ask for Local Network access
Open iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network and check whether BONKO is listed and enabled. If it is not listed, update to the latest BONKO build, reopen the app, and attempt a local connection again.
BONKO says connected, but I hear no sound
Confirm your DAW is playing and meters move before BONKO on the master bus. Raise the iPhone media volume, disconnect muted or unexpected Bluetooth outputs, and verify the plugin is not bypassed. Try a simple test tone or known loud section at a safe volume.
The stream stutters or drops out
Move both devices closer to the router, use a stable 5 GHz or 6 GHz Wi-Fi network when available, and reduce heavy DAW CPU load. Avoid guest networks, congested repeaters, and simultaneous large network transfers during the test.
Does playback continue with the screen locked?
Yes. BONKO uses background audio so a connected stream can continue while the iPhone screen is locked. If it stops, confirm the latest app build is installed and that Low Power Mode or a network change did not interrupt the session.
Can I listen through AirPods or other headphones?
BONKO follows the active iOS audio output. Select your preferred output through iOS, then use the phone volume controls. Bluetooth introduces its own additional delay, so the phone speaker is the clearest translation check.
Desktop plugin
Install and find the plug-in
Where is the plugin installed?
On macOS, BONKO installs Audio Unit in /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/ and VST3 in /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/. On Windows, it is installed in the system VST3 folder under Common Files\VST3. Restart or rescan your DAW afterward.
The plugin does not appear in my DAW
Restart the DAW and trigger a full plug-in rescan. In Logic Pro, open Plug-in Manager and look under manufacturer PhilTheBeat. In a VST3 host, confirm VST3 scanning is enabled and check that BONKO Streamer exists in the system VST3 folder.
Which DAWs are supported?
BONKO 2.1.1 includes Audio Unit for Logic Pro and GarageBand on macOS and VST3 for compatible 64-bit hosts including Ableton Live, Cubase, Studio One, FL Studio, and REAPER. Version 2.1.1 is also the current signed Windows download.
Does it work in Logic Pro?
Yes on macOS. Install BONKO 2.1.1 and load Audio Units → PhilTheBeat → BONKO Streamer in Logic. Logic does not load the VST3 copy.
Does it work on Windows?
Yes. BONKO 2.1.1 includes a native 64-bit Windows 10/11 VST3 package with setup and uninstaller. The VST3, setup, and installed uninstaller are Authenticode-signed as publisher Philipp Bednorz and RFC-3161 timestamped. Use the official download and verify its SHA-256 checksum.
What does MONO ON do?
It creates an equal-gain mono mix from left and right, writes that same signal to both DAW output channels, and sends it to the phone stream. The choice is restored with your DAW project.
Privacy & sharing
Local versus external listening
Does normal listening upload my audio?
No. In the normal same-Wi-Fi workflow, the stream travels directly from the computer to the mobile device inside your local network.
What changes when I use Share Stream?
When you explicitly create an external share link, the desktop side opens a temporary third-party tunnel through localhost.run. The streamed audio then leaves the local network to reach the remote listener. BONKO does not record it, but the third-party network path handles the live traffic.
Is a share link private?
Treat it as a bearer link: anyone who receives a valid active link may be able to listen. Share it only with trusted recipients and stop the external session when finished.
Does BONKO use accounts or analytics?
The iOS app has no account, advertising, or analytics SDK. This website also contains no analytics script, marketing pixel, or newsletter form.
